Meet Amanda
Amanda Evans – Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist in Charlevoix, Michigan
Hi! I’m Amanda. I am a Master’s-prepared Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) & Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (CDCES, formerly titled Certified Diabetes Educator, CDE) who is passionate about helping others obtain optimal health. Through nutrition & lifestyle modifications, I will help you reach your wellness goals. I have been an RDN since 2007. I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Dietetics through Central Michigan University (CMU) in 2006. Immediately following my internship, I went on to complete my Masters of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics, also through CMU, in 2010.
unI am often asked how I knew I wanted to be an RDN. To be honest, I didn’t at first! I cannot say that the concept was foreign to me. I have always been interested in staying healthy. I played rec. league soccer as a young child. In high school I played soccer and cheered for football and basketball. In college I took many additional classes such as latin dance, soccer, running, and other random classes just to stay active and be involved! I also started running in college, though I didn’t really become passionate about running until after graduation when I started running local road races.
For the past 16 years, I have been assisting people with improving their health through nutrition. In that time, my experiences with individual situations and various conditions has been vast. I have assisted with everything from weight loss, diabetes management and cardiac nutrition to allergy education, eating disorder recovery, a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders and many other health conditions.
My interests have varied throughout the years, but currently lie with PCOS fertility. I am a married, mother of three busy children! I also have PCOS and dealt with infertility before making the adjustments to my nutrition & lifestyle that led to the successful conception of my children. I understand what it is like to struggle with PCOS and I know what it is like to deal with the lack of healthcare providers & medical professionals who do not understand our condition! So often, women are told to “lose weight and exercise” to get pregnant, but not much more detail than that. We are left exiting the doctor’s office with no more information than what we went in with. I enjoy taking away the feelings of hopelessness and frustration. I love helping women feel confident in their nutrition & lifestyle choices to better balance hormones, improve their PCOS symptoms and have a baby.
I practice evidence-based nutrition, but understand that some questionable methods in the PCOS community help some women to feel better ( think going gluten-free). I believe that women should trust their bodies and do what they know makes them feel the best. I provide the fundamentals and help to build the foundation of optimal health & fertility, while you guide me in helping you create the optimal plan for YOU as an individual.
