Meet Amanda
Amanda Evans – Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist in Charlevoix, Michigan
Hi! My name is Amanda. I am a Master’s-prepared Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) & Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (CDCES, formerly titled Certified Diabetes Educator, CDE) who is passionate about helping others obtain optimal health. Through nutrition & lifestyle modifications, I will help you reach your wellness goals.
I have been an RDN since 2007. I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Dietetics through Central Michigan University (CMU) in 2006. Immediately following my internship, I went on to complete my Masters of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics, also through CMU, in 2010.
I am often asked how I knew I wanted to be an RDN. To be honest, I didn’t at first! I cannot say that the concept was foreign to me. I have always been interested in staying healthy. I played rec. league soccer as a young child. In high school I played soccer and cheered for football and soccer. In college I took many additional classes such as latin dance, soccer, running, and other oddball classes just to stay active and be involved! I also started running in college, though I didn’t really become passionate about running until after college when I started running local races.
For the past 14 years, I have been assisting people with improving their health through nutrition. In that time, my experiences with individual situations and various conditions has been vast. I have assisted with everything from weight loss, diabetes management and cardiac nutrition to allergy education, eating disorder recovery, a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders and many other health conditions.
My interests have varied throughout the years and currently lie in family nutrition. I am a married, mother of three busy little ones and I currently still work a full time “day job” in addition to my private practice! I know what it is like to be a mother and I know what it is like to be a BUSY mother! Motherhood has always been fascinating to me – everything from pregnancy through raising children. I adore working with ladies who are trying to conceive, those who are currently pregnant, and those in the postpartum period. I love everything about this special time in a family’s life and I would love to help you through this time period with optimal health and nutrition! Not to mention, feeding the littles can be challenging at times, right!?
I also really enjoy helping children meet their nutritional needs. I have three of my own (ages 10, 8 and 4) who I have raised to eat a wide variety of foods. I have a child, my first, who was easy to feed, but was my “experiment” with Baby Led Weaning. My second child was a bit more challenging. He was later to take solids and we worked with Speech Therapy & Occupational Therapy to help him start to take solids as he was vomiting with oral intake. My third child is my “sugar-lover” – I am working with her to find a good balance between enjoying desserts, while still getting optimal nutrition through fruits, veggies, lean proteins and good quality whole grains. Nutrition with children is an evolving process. Their likes/dislikes and little lives are constantly changing. Mix that with growth spurts, various family dynamics and different family styles. It can make it challenging to get a child to eat optimal nutrition!
Additionally, I really enjoy helping those who have struggled with various (fad) diets over the years, but have not found much success. I am passionate about easing people into trusting their bodies and teaching them that all foods can fit into a healthy, balanced lifestyle. My goal is for people to feel good about their nutrition and to feel good about themselves while improving their health.
I use goal setting as a means to help you move along in your journey towards health. We will work together to determine what is realistic for your current lifestyle and work towards getting you to the best You possible!
